Jim Duncan Competition

The winners of the Jim Duncan Cup are Sandra and Craig McBride, who beat Doris Nisbet and Derek McLean in a close 3 set match.

Special Summer Offer

New for summer - one adult and one child can play tennis from now until 1st September, Monday till Friday until 6pm. The child can also play at junior sessions which are normally on a Saturday afternoon.
The cost will be £40.
There will be a charge of £10 for an additional child.
A key to the courts is £5, refundable on it's return.

Coaching

Our coach, Gordon Watson, is going to run Saturday morning coaching sessions from 17th May until the end of June. There will be sessions for adults as well as juniors. Places need to be booked in advance. You can do this by ringing Gordon on his new number, 01324 635633 or by emailing him on

Open Day

Hatton is having an Open Day on Saturday 10th May from 10 till 4. This is open to anyone who wants to try out the courts, whether a beginner or experienced player. Club members will be available on the day to answer questions and give you a game if you wish. Rackets and balls supplied - just bring your trainers.

Scottish Cup

Congratulations to both our tennis teams for getting through the first round of the Scottish Cup. Our ladies team beat Murrayfield on Thursday night, and our men's team beat Abercorn the night before.
Both 2nd round matches will be at Hatton. The ladies play on 1st May and the men on 30th April.
This will mean that some league matches will need to be rearranged. Keep an eye on the calendar for details.

Mixed Doubles

The sheet for entries into the Mixed Doubles competition for the Wright Cup will go up in the next day or two.
This will begin in mid May, with the final on 22nd June. All members are welcome to enter.
You will be allocated a partner, so no need to find your own.

Jim Duncan Tournament

Extension to playing time for the Jim Duncan

Due to bad weather the sub committee have decided to extend the playing time of the jim duncan tropy.

The deadline for all matches to be played is now the 15th May.

The top couple from each group will go in a hat and be drawn out in their relevant order and be informed who they have to play.

They can do so at their leisure (but as quickly as possible please).

Then the winners from the semi final will be allowed to play at their leisure but hopefully on a Sunday afternoon where we can all watch.

The Jim Duncan Trophy has been a disappointing event nearly every year and we really would like it to work so I hope all concerned can now go ahead and get their matches played and make this year a success.

Notice of Emergency General Meeting

Friday 9th May at 7pm

It was agreed at the recent Annual General Meeting, that as so few members were present, a further meeting would be necessary to discuss and reach a decision on the future development of the tennis courts at Hatton.

These courts are reaching the end of their life, and need to be replaced or refurbished if we are to continue to attract and retain members.

The committee has investigated several options, taken advice and obtained quotes. We are now in a position to put two options to the membership.

Option 1 would involve the replacement of court 1 and the refurbishment of courts 2 and 3. This option would cost approximately £27,000.

Option 2 would involve the replacement of all 3 courts at a cost of approximately £49,000.

The work would most likely be done at the end of this summer and the court/courts would be out of use for several weeks.

While the cost of option 1 could be met from our current funds, option 2 would necessitate a bank loan which would cost the club around £3,500 a year in repayments.

The financial commitment required for either option means that it is essential that the club raises more money to maintain the courts and clubhouse and starts to save towards future expenditure.

Detailed costings will be available at the EGM, and members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the club’s financial position and about the tennis courts.

All full, senior members are entitled to vote at the meeting. Please put this date in your diary. The decision on the way forward lies with you, the members.

No decision can be taken unless we have a quorum at the meeting!
